Saturday morning, let’s go to eat breakfast 🥞 @Tokyo (English Version)

Here are some of the restaurants we actually visited in the Tokyo area and the breakfast menus (morning menus) we ate there!

【Shinagawa】Excellent prosciutto ham and sausage! Have a limited morning breakfast of 80 servings at Bar Marche Kodama Ecute Shinagawa (バルマルシェコダマエキュート品川店)

I visited "Bar Marche Kodama Ecute Shinagawa"(バルマルシェコダマエキュート品川店), a café and bar attached to a butcher store in JR Shinagawa Station, because we heard that they offer a morning plate with cured ham and sausage.

Visit the restaurant

The restaurant is located inside the ticket gates of JR Shinagawa Station, so it is not very spacious. Behind the meat and other delicatessen corner, there is a bar counter with some seating, and tables and chairs for terrace seating.
The system is to pay at the cash register before entering the restaurant.

We arrived around 9:15, about an hour after opening time, and the restaurant was already full. Only the terrace seats were available, and this time we enjoyed our meal on the terrace.
The temperature that day was 4 degrees Celsius, and it was cold on the terrace. Next time, I thought I would go earlier or wait until the inside seats were available.
The waiter asked us if we wanted to sit on the terrace. The waitress asked me if I wanted to sit on the terrace. It was my choice. The waiter was not to blame.

This is the menu that was offered that day. There is only one type of morning, "Cured Ham MORONING"(生ハムMORNING). It is easy to understand and appreciate.

  • Cured ham MORNING(生ハムモーニング): 500 yen (tax included)

The menu says "limited to 80 servings" but there were still some left when we visited. I was able to order it safely.
Almost all the people seated around us ordered the cured ham MORNING. It seems to be quite popular.

On the food log and other gourmet sites, it is written that "there is a morning buffet including prosciutto", but it seems to have disappeared. It was not on the menu.

Actual meal

The menu items we ate on that day consisted of the following

  • Cured ham MORNING(生ハムモーニング): 500 yen (tax included)
    • Cured ham
    • Sausage of the day (Mustard)
    • Salad (Caesar dressing)
    • Boiled egg
    • Bread
    • One drink
      • Coffee: Hot/Iced
      • Tea: hot/ice
      • Orange Juice

This time, I selected orange juice as a drink.

Detailed impressions are below.

  • Cured ham

    • It is a cured ham, a very cured ham. It tastes like a legitimate cured ham. It is amazing to be able to eat this high quality ingredient in the morning.
  • Sausage of the day (mustard)

    • This sausage has an elaborate flavor like those served at a sausage specialty restaurant. As one would expect from a butcher's store, this is a wonderful dish. This is the star of this morning plate. The fresh herb aroma blends well with the juicy taste of the meat.
  • Salad (Caesar dressing)

    • This is an ordinary salad. Since meat is the main menu item, having vegetables is a relief.
  • Boiled egg

    • A normal boiled egg. Nothing special.
  • Bread

    • No? Is it like toasted French bread? Isn't this the authentic kind sold in bakeries? I enjoyed the savory aroma and firm texture.
  • Orange juice

    • This is an orange drink with about 30% juice. It was freezing. Not something to drink on a terrace in winter. I should have had hot coffee or hot tea.

Comments

For 500 yen, this is too substantial. The volume is solid, the prosciutto and sausage are simple but clearly assertive, and the salad and hard-boiled egg are a great value for the price.
The price is very reasonable for such a luxurious menu that even includes a salad and boiled egg.
Above all, the taste was so good that it was hard to believe that this sausage could be served at such a reasonable price. It's the kind of thing you can get on a plate at an upscale bar for about 600 yen for a single item. I was surprised.

The location is also good: being inside the ticket gates of JR Shinagawa station means that you can stop by for a quick breakfast when changing trains with the Tokaido Shinkansen.
I thought I would go there again.
